General FAQ:
1.     Where can I learn more about the Computer Programs Department, faculty, students, programs, and courses?

2.     Who is responsible for admitting and advising graduate students?
The admissions office is responsible for admitting the students. Admissions can be contacted at the following addresses:

3.     How do I check my application status?
Applicants can check their admission’s status by going to the admission’s office page, or this link

4.     What are the admission requirements?
The general admission’s requirements are the following:
            1. Choose your program of study
            2. Apply online
            3. Pay the $100 application fee
            4. Send required documents
            5. Double check that you sent the following documents as original or notarized copies:
               -Bank statement
               -Transcripts
            6. Wait for response from VIU's admission department 
               - Check the status of your application online
               - Be sure to pay the $50 postage fee. (If we are sending your I-20 to your country)
           

5.     What do my TOEFL scores need to be?
The minimum TOEFL score accepted for admissions is 550 for computer based (213 paper based)

6.     Is there an orientation for new students?
Yes. Orientation is usually during the first week of classes. In the orientation students are familiarized with VIU’s policies, meet the faculty, meet with bank agents, fitness centers memberships, health insurance plans.

7.     I am from a foreign country. Can I contact other students from my country to help me get oriented in the US?
Yes. VIU encourages a friendly environment among students, and welcomes guests and visitors from different countries and universities. Also visit our student’s club web page

8.     What is the fee structure and how/when do I pay for tuition?

9.     Can I have a job to help pay for school?
Yes, as long as you are granted permission to work in the US from the INS (Immigration and Naturalization Services). However, F1 students are permitted to work only on campus and up to 20 hours/week. On campus employment is not always available and guaranteed.  

10.    Do I need health insurance? What does the university provide?
Health insurance is recommended, but not required. More information regarding health insurance can be found here
